BOTOX, Botulinum Toxin A, is a purified protein made from
botulism bacteria that prevents the release of the chemical
transmitters that activate muscles. BOTOX injections are used
to reduce creases in the forehead, frown lines, and wrinkles.
This treatment decreases the ability to squint and frown,
which in turn prevents the appearance of wrinkles. BOTOX
injections are generally more effective around the eyes and
forehead, but other areas can be treated.

Reasons To
Consider |
|
You have visible frown lines or
wrinkles on your face. |
| |
|
The skin into which the BOTOX
will be injected is first cleaned with a topical anesthetic. A
very thin needle is then used to inject the BOTOX into the
wrinkle or crease being treated. Injections done on forehead
creases are usually done 10-16 times to weaken, rather than
paralyze, the forehead muscles.
RECOVERING FROM THIS SURGERY
There is a slight amount of discomfort with the
injections, somewhat similar to an insect bite -- but there is
no pain afterwards. The injection can also occasionally cause
a brief headache. After the BOTOX treatments, the effects will
become visible within 4-5 days. BOTOX treatments lasts 4-6
months, and can be repeated when necessary. |
