Breast Lift |
|
|
Breast lifts are performed to
raise and reshape breasts that sag due to pregnancy, nursing,
or gravity. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts
often lose their shape and firmness, causing them to droop
below their original location. The areola (the dark region
around the nipple) can also be reduced in size. |

Reasons To
Consider |
- You have had a pregnancy
that has left your breasts stretched.
- Your breasts have begun to
sag over time.
|
Breast lifts generally take 1.5
- 3.5 hours, and are performed in an outpatient surgical
center. An anchor-like incision is made along the natural
contour of the breast. Excess skin is removed, and the nipple
and areola are moved to a higher location. The skin
surrounding the areola is brought down and put together, in
order to reshape the breast. Stitches are placed around the
areola in a vertical line extending downwards.
RECOVERING FROM THIS SURGERY
Healing from a breast lift is a gradual process. Most
individuals are up and about in a day or two, but some take a
little longer to recover. An elastic bandage or surgical bra
will be put on immediately following the surgery, and will be
worn for several days. Your breasts will be swollen and
bruised for several days, and you will feel a little
discomfort. The scars from a breast lift are extensive and
permanent, but patients are usually able to wear low-cut tops
without making them visible. |
