Breast Reduction |
|
|
Breast reduction is a procedure
that removes fat, tissue, and skin from a woman's breasts in
order to make them smaller, lighter, and firmer. The goal of
this procedure is to leave the woman with smaller,
better-shaped breasts that are proportional to the rest of her
body. |

Reasons To
Consider |
- You have very large
breasts that cause discomfort.
- You have back pain due to
your large breasts.
- You have breathing
problems due to your large breasts.
- You have skeletal
deformities due to your large breasts.
|
During surgery, an anchor-shaped
incision is made around the areola and extended downward along
the natural contour of the breast. Incisions outline the new
position for the nipple as well as the area of skin, breast
tissue, and fat that will be removed. Liposuction may be
performed to remove fat around the armpit area if needed.
Stitches are then placed around the areola in a vertical line
extending downward, and along the lower crease of the breast.
In some cases, liposuction alone can be used to reduce the
breast size, leaving minimal scars.
RECOVERING FROM THIS SURGERY
Immediately after surgery you will be wrapped in an
elastic bandage or surgical bra. A small tube might be placed
in each breast to drain blood and fluids for the first day or
two. Some pain and discomfort will be experienced the first
few days after the surgery, especially when you move around or
cough. Bandages will be removed a day or two after surgery,
but you will continue to wear the surgical bra for several
weeks until you heal. |
