IMPORTANT PRE-OPERATION INFORMATION
Dr. Moncada will give you specific instructions on how to prepare
for your surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking,
smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medication.
Below are general precautions patients need to take before
surgery.
MEDICATIONS
1) Do not take any aspirin or products that contain
aspirin for 2 weeks before your surgery, or for 1 week after your
surgery.
Aspirin increases the chance of bleeding problems after
surgery.
2) Do not take any herbal preparations for 2 weeks before surgery,
unless otherwise directed by your surgeon.
3) If you are taking a prescription blood thinning medicine,
please be sure to inform your surgeon.
DIET
1) Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your
surgery.
HYGIENE
1) Bathe or shower before surgery with mild soap.
2) Wash your hair before surgery.
SMOKING
1) Smoking seriously interferes with blood circulation and
healing. Please do not smoke for 2 weeks before surgery and for 1
week after your surgery. The Nicotine patch or gum is also not
recommended.
TRANSPORTATION
1) An adult must accompany you and drive you home if you have
general anesthesia or sedation.
MISCELLANEOUS
1) Wear loose-fitting clothing that does not have to be pulled
over your head.
2) Arrange for an adult to be with you the first night after your
surgery.
